The victory was the third-straight for the Toronto Maple Leafs. They got goals from Morgan Rielly, James Van Riemsdyk and Mitch Marner. Frederick Andersen played great as well.
For the Leafs, it was a must-win as Boston had won earlier in the day. As an added bonus, the Islanders then lost.
The race is still incredibly tight, but things are looking up for the Leafs. The best part is that while the goals aren’t going in for Auston Matthews, the Toronto Maple Leafs are still winning. When he inevitably gets hot again, look out!
While I’ve seen the Leafs bad luck manifest itself in blown third period leads, losses in overtime and lost games they totally should have won, this wasn’t one of them.
